City of Albuquerque District 6 Councilwoman Nichole Rogers

Nichole Rogers, Councilwoman for Albuquerque's District 6, is known for her unique approach to addressing community issues, particularly in the culturally rich areas like Nob Hill, the International District, and parts of the University of New Mexico. She made history as the first Black woman on Albuquerque's City Council, a milestone that reflects her commitment to representation and inclusivity.

Rogers’ work experience spans roles that focus on community well-being and equity, such as her involvement in Albuquerque’s Office of Equity and Inclusion, work at the University of New Mexico Hospital, and her role in health and public safety at Central New Mexico Community College. Additionally, she founded the Welstand Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at promoting health equity for people of color, although she acknowledged some administrative issues with the organization during her campaign and committed to resolving them.

A significant part of Rogers' platform addresses poverty as a root cause of crime, with a focus on preventive approaches rather than increased policing alone. She advocates for boosting the budgets of Albuquerque Community Safety and Fire Rescue to create a more holistic approach to public safety. Additionally, she emphasizes improving access to mental health, addiction support, and housing services, as well as considering innovative funding models, like using cannabis tax revenue for guaranteed income programs to help lift residents out of poverty.
